THE CALL!!

We weren't sure if we would get a phone call on Mother's Day, so a sweet fellow missionary mom asked the CCM chef to take a picture of Elder McDonald and his companion Elder Hallman for us moms! It was an awesome surprise to get this picture and see his big smile! Thank you Brenda and Esteban!
Open your eyes Elder McDonald!!!
Saturday, we got a quick email from Elder McDonald saying he gets to call home for Mother's Day!!! Talk about the best present ever! We all hurried home from church so we'd be ready for the call...and then anxiously waited...checking our phones to make sure they were both charged and had the volume turned up. We weren't sure if he knew our phone numbers or which one he'd call. The call came on Mick's phone and he handed the phone to me to answer! Oh happy day!!

I couldn't believe how happy, excited, and grown up Elder McDonald sounded after just 5 days of being in the CCM (Mexico MTC)! He said he LOVES the CCM (which we could hear in his voice). He said he is learning so much so fast! He's learned more Spanish in the 5 days in the CCM than 2 years of high school Spanish (I'm sure the 2 years gave him a jump start). He said he and his companion gave talks that morning IN SPANISH! He said he knows how to pray and share his testimony in Spanish. It was fun hearing him speak Spanish and can't wait to see the changes at Christmas.

He loves his companion Elder Hallman! I asked him if his companion has complained about his snoring and/or sleep talking, but he says Elder Hallman told him he's not doing either (lucky for Elder Hallman). Maybe it's due to their busy schedule or because they sleep with their window open and hear the traffic, honking, and music throughout the night. He said Elder Hallman taught him how to polish his shoes and tie his tie (again...maybe it'll stick this time).

Elder McDonald was so excited to tell us about all the exotic birds they see around the CCM and the palm trees that are everywhere. And actually while talking to us, he stopped mid-sentence and said, "there's a red bird!" (squirrel). He said so far the weather has been comparable to ours here. I wonder if he'll grow his curls out a little for easy maintenance. LOL

He loves their hour in the gym and playing bump. He said they call him "sniper" because of his 3s. He has requested more exercise clothes, probably because he has to do his own laundry. Actually, I have heard that they end up needing more than they think. But from what I hear, mail is SLOW...

It was so good to hear his voice and hear his enthusiasm! I'm grateful for all the little blessings we've experienced already. And I can't wait to start getting regular emails!!

BEST MOTHER'S DAY GIFT EVER!!!!
