WEEKLY UPDATE #17

Elder McDonald and Elder Serrano have the best smiles!

August 28, 2017

"Hey everyone!!
This week has been super great!! We've been having a lot more success here!! On Tuesday we had interviews with the President and he told me that hes proud of the missionary I've become! It was awesome to hear that from him, hes a super cool president! But anyways Elder Serrano told me that in his interview he prayed for us to find "Escogidos" (chosen ones) And we found 6 escogidos the same day as the interviews it was crazy!! Also we finally had investigators attend church!!! Oh man it was great!! We also have put some more baptismal dates!! I don't have much time though anyways hopefully I can find more time to write later in my mission hahaha!!! Bye everyone Love you!!!"

His general emails are typically short, but as a wise friend and fellow Chihuahua missionary mom told me, "I told Nick (her missionary) short updates are fine as long as he sends pictures!!" It's so true!! Seeing that smiling face is everything to me!!

In his email to his Dad, we learned a couple of interesting things. They're not supposed to drink soda unless it's offered to them. They just drink water and Gatorade. And that a couple of words that we used to explain Rudy's neutering are actually not nice words in Spanish. Oops!

I asked him if they were affected at all by Hurricane Harvey and he said, " Yes, we got a bad storm last week and some other bad ones. A storm passes us everyday but sometimes we just see it off in the distance and it doesn't hit us."

Video of the water from the storm:

So, before Davis left on his mission he was an extremely picky eater and did not like Mexican food at all. We all knew it'd be interesting him serving in Mexico and that he'd learn to love it. He said, " Members feed us everyday and everyday its beans, rice, and tortillas." And he loves it!! Hurray for "miracles!" He's enjoyed everything he's tried -- and is actually trying food..except some tuna that he said was too hard. Haha! I asked him if he's thought about all the food he's missed out on at home, and he said he has.

What they do for "entertainment" featuring Elder Serrano:

Random silly picture of Davis (he does not wear glasses):

He also sent us pictures of some of his journal entries. I am so thankful he's keeping his journal. They're full of so much spirit, stories, scriptures, personality, thought, etc. That makes up for our short emails for sure!! He has grown so much already. We're so proud of him and love his excitement and love for the work!!

Until next week...He's really hoping to stay with Elder Serrano awhile longer...
